- Wednesday,
September 18th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in 2207 MHRA (Moore
Humanities and Research Building located at 1111 Spring Garden Street). ARF is co-sponsoring an event
with the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement that includes dinner and small group discussions with UNCG students
about why they (and we) should be involved with civic matters like elections.
OLCE will provide dinner and parking passes. This is a chance for ARF members
to share their wisdom about the importance of civic engagement writ large, and
political engagement during an election year, in particular.
- Thursday,
October 24th (evening) and Friday, October 25th (9 AM-3
PM) in the Virginia Dare Room.
ARF is co-sponsoring the Free Speech Conference being organized by Spoma
Jovanovic. ARF members are encouraged to attend this free event, and ARF will
have a table of materials, including applications for new members. The Thursday
keynote may be held at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, so look
for further announcements.
- Tuesday,
November 19th from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM in the Virginia Dare Room. ARF is co-sponsoring with the Office of
Leadership and Civic Engagement, UNCG Faculty Senate, UNCG Staff Senate, and
UNCG AAUP Chapter a “Civic Engagement
Matters!” event focused on ways to become more civically engaged in the
upcoming 2020 presidential election. Find out how you can volunteer locally to
ensure as many citizens as possible vote in 2020. A pizza lunch will be served,
and you will have the opportunity to hear from and talk with the following
non-artisan groups: League of Women
Voters, NC You Can Vote, Common Cause, NC, Democracy NC, UNCG Office of
Leadership and Civic Engagement. You will also learn about a relevant UNCG
course offering titled Reclaiming
Democracy.
- Sunday, February
2nd from 3:30 to 5:00 PM in Tew Recital Hall. ARF is co-sponsoring a concert with the School of
Music as part of its Collage Chamber series. General Admission is $10 and
proceeds will go to the UNCG Student
Emergency Fund for homeless and hungry students. ARF will also be
collecting food and toiletries or the Spartan
Food Pantry, which is housed at College Place Methodist Church.
- Also
coming in Spring 2020: ARF members are invited to view and discuss several TED Talks in the UTLC Large Conference Room at 1100 West Market Street. The
TED Talks selected will address issues related to successfully navigating
retirement. These BYO lunch-time events are small groups discussions of one or
more TED Talks in February, March, and April. More information will be provided
as we get closer to 2020.

ARF will hold its Third Annual Business
Meeting on Wednesday, May 20th. 2020 from
4:00-6:00 PM in the Virginia Dare Room. New members are welcome, updates on
ARF activities during 2019-20 and plans ARF activities for 2020-21 will be
shared, and elections for the ARF Board of Directors will be held.
