  • Wednesday, September 18th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in 2207 MHRA (Moore Humanities and Research Building located at 1111 Spring Garden Street). ARF is co-sponsoring an event with the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement that includes dinner and small group discussions with UNCG students about why they (and we) should be involved with civic matters like elections. OLCE will provide dinner and parking passes. This is a chance for ARF members to share their wisdom about the importance of civic engagement writ large, and political engagement during an election year, in particular.
  • Thursday, October 24th (evening) and Friday, October 25th (9 AM-3 PM) in the Virginia Dare Room. ARF is co-sponsoring the Free Speech Conference being organized by Spoma Jovanovic. ARF members are encouraged to attend this free event, and ARF will have a table of materials, including applications for new members. The Thursday keynote may be held at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, so look for further announcements.
  • Tuesday, November 19th from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM in the Virginia Dare Room. ARF is co-sponsoring with the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement, UNCG Faculty Senate, UNCG Staff Senate, and UNCG AAUP Chapter a “Civic Engagement Matters!” event focused on ways to become more civically engaged in the upcoming 2020 presidential election. Find out how you can volunteer locally to ensure as many citizens as possible vote in 2020. A pizza lunch will be served, and you will have the opportunity to hear from and talk with the following non-artisan groups: League of Women Voters, NC You Can Vote, Common Cause, NC, Democracy NC, UNCG Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement. You will also learn about a relevant UNCG course offering titled Reclaiming Democracy.
  • Sunday, February 2nd from 3:30 to 5:00 PM in Tew Recital Hall. ARF is co-sponsoring a concert with the School of Music as part of its Collage Chamber series. General Admission is $10 and proceeds will go to the UNCG Student Emergency Fund for homeless and hungry students. ARF will also be collecting food and toiletries or the Spartan Food Pantry, which is housed at College Place Methodist Church.
  • Also coming in Spring 2020: ARF members are invited to view and discuss several TED Talks in the UTLC Large Conference Room at 1100 West Market Street. The TED Talks selected will address issues related to successfully navigating retirement. These BYO lunch-time events are small groups discussions of one or more TED Talks in February, March, and April. More information will be provided as we get closer to 2020.
  • ARF will hold its Third Annual Business Meeting on Wednesday, May 20th. 2020 from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Virginia Dare Room.
